The Nigerian children; the future of this great country

As today marks the children’s day celebration; it should be a day where parents or guardians and all stakeholders should look back and have cause to smile. Over the course of the last few decades, it has been a sorry story on the state of education and health care services provided to kids. Based on investigations carried out by the news agency-Punch-on public primary schools, the state of infrastructure has worsened which has been bemoaned by the NUT. Across the country especially the northern states where enrollments have surged, there are not enough infrastructure to accommodate this developments. UBEC, which was created to address these issues has been operating in limited capacity due to state governments not delivering their part of the quota. With their parts available, it is believed that some of the issues that needs urgent attention can be mitigated and properly managed to avert further dilapidation. Having to list and state the issues around all of these can be vexing, exhaustive and non-productive; as a passionate Nigerian who was brought up in these system, likewise many other top government officials should be humble and look back to their grassroots to bring smiles to the faces of these children, to honour these kids, so that when they themselves are strong and able to lead these country, they would look back to us who are feeble and old and would honour us as we have honoured them.
